Write a note on features of epic.
Ans: - An epic is a long narrative poem on serious subject in lofty style. The features of an epic are—
(i) The hero is outstanding. He is a figure of great national or even cosmic importance.
(ii) The setting of an epic larger. It is ample in scale and may be worldwide or even larger.
(iii) The action of an epic involves (is) extraordinary deeds in battle. It may be also event of national or historical interest.
(iv) The gods, the goddesses and the supernatural beings take part or interfere in the action of epic. They are called machinery.
(v) An epic poem is a ceremonial performance and is narrated in a ceremonial style. The use of epic simile is also feature of an epic.
(vi) An epic generally starts in the middle of the action of epic.
(vii) An epic opens with an invocation to deity or Muse to inspire in composing epic.
(viii) There are catalogues of some of the principal characters in an epic
